As of this moment, Israel is at war. Not just the ‘state of war’ it has been in since its birth in 1948. It is an actual hot, fierce, and furious war. And unlike earlier wars in 1948, 1956, 1967, 1969-70, 1973, 1982, 2006, and earlier Hamas wars (2008, 2012, 2014), this current war presents an existential threat to the Jewish state and the world. We have learned that Israel’s current war is multi-dimensional:   Bi-lateral Dimension : This war is between Israel and Hamas;   Regional Dimension : Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen, and Iran to the east are also part of this conflict;   Civilisational Dimension : It is a fight between ‘Christianised’ Western civilisation and the part of the non-Western world that is rabidly anti-Judaeo-Christian.   Theological Dimension : Judaeo-Christian (Biblical) eschatology vs. Islamic eschatology. The horrifying terrorist attack on Israel was planned with deadly detail and executed with horrifying haste. Even the date of deployment, 7th October 2023, was planned: it was one day after the fiftieth anniversary of another existential surprise military attack on Israel - the Yom Kippur War of 1973. This earlier war nearly brought the world to the brink of a nuclear armageddon. War is serious business and when it is in the Middle East, the stakes are very high. Its central location, oil reserves, long history and various theologies, and inter-connectedness with the rest of the world, mean that conflict can affect everyone. If the world were a stick of dynamite, the Middle East would be the fuse. Despite the dire challenges there is great hope. Never forget this reality: prayer is far more powerful than military might. Bowls in heaven are filled with the prayers, praise, worship, and thanksgiving of the saints (Revelation 5:8). The more you fill those heavenly bowls, the more there will be an overflow that will rain blessings on the earth.
