Patience: Key to the Promises of God Part 02 ‘The Patience of Job’

That you do not become sluggish but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises - Hebrews 6:12 In our changing, trying times, the one thing we need above all else is divine patience; it can help you plough through the obstacles and keep going unto victory. More than that, it is a key to receiving the promises of God. Abraham had it, and so did Job - what about you? In Part One we defined and described what is Biblical patience, based in part from James 5:7-11 . You can read it for yourself at http://majdali.blogspot.com/2023/09/patience-key-to-unlocking-blessings-of.html The paragon of patience was the patriarch Job. Few people have suffered as much as this man. He was exceedingly blessed by God and then tragedy hit on many fronts: in one calendar day, he lost his flocks, workers, and children. If that weren’t enough, he lost his health. His wife told him to let go of his integrity: just curse God and die. Fortunately for him and us, he did not listen to her. ...

The Eighth Commandment: More than Ever

It was a most unsettling thing. At the age of seventeen, I went on a visit to the stunningly beautiful Oregon coast in the United States for a short holiday break. There I caught up with two young ladies who attended my high school, Hudson’s Bay in Vancouver, Washington. One of them graduated with me. We went to visit the local convenience store; while one of them was having a friendly chat with the owner at the cash register, the other was piling foodstuffs into her purse. ‘We have to do it this way,’ she told me later. ‘We don’t have enough money and if we didn’t do this we would starve.’ My reaction? Horror! I had never seen someone brazenly steal first-hand. They didn’t seem to have a problem with it, either. As a new Christian, and even before becoming born again, I knew that stealing was wrong. What I didn’t realise at the time is that you don’t have to be Christian to know that stealing is not just wrong — it’s a crime. Most cultures understand this, but Western...

The Seventh Commandment - Part 03: Adultery & the Strong Words of Jesus

Adultery & the Strong Words of Jesus   The Ten Commandments are the bedrock of a moral, ethical, and righteous society.  The seventh commandment, which prohibits adultery, is a clarion call to personal purity. Here are some more insights of this important commandment from the words of Jesus.  Warning: Be prepared for some strong undiluted statements from the Lord Himself.   And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell — Matthew 5:29-30   •   Right eye and right hand: Hard to believe but true, Jesus advocates removing a bodily member that causes you to sin, rather than keeping it and going to hell. Exceptiona...

The Prophet from Babylon: Why Study the Book of Daniel

PART 01 Introduction As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams — Daniel 1:17 A multi-metalled statue, a fiery furnace, a king goes mad and eats grass like an animal, a night in the lion’s den, these are some of the images that come to mind when we consider the Book of Daniel. Yet, it has value beyond memorable, faith-building Sunday school stories. For the Book of Daniel is a handbook for end-time prophecy, detailing the end of the ‘Times of the Gentiles’ and the ‘kingdoms of men,’ and the transition to the ‘Time of Messiah’ and of the ‘Kingdom of God.' Though the book is written in Hebrew for the sake of Israel and its future, Chapters 2-7 are in Aramaic, so that the Gentiles can also learn of God’s purpose for them, too. Daniel is considered the Old Testament twin of the Book of Revelation. For the sake of understanding God and His end-time plan, the Book of...

Seven Pillars to Understanding the Future: Final Pillar Number Seven

In this important series we have been learning the pillars that help us to make sense of the future. When you understand the future, we are better prepared to face it. So far, the pillars we learned include: Pillar 01: Bible Prophecy is the key; Pillar 02: We live in a spiritual world and the challenges, problems and solutions are equally spiritual; Pillar 03: We have power and victory over the enemy; Pillar 04: We are called to fearlessness; Pillar 05: We are simultaneously ‘dead’ and ‘alive;’ Pillar 06: God provides a way of escape. To these we add the seventh and final pillar. It is well described in Proverbs 4:18-19: But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. 19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble. In short, Pillar 07 can be summarised as this: Your God-given future is bright. This is very true, however, the converse is also correct: A future witho...

DIVISION & DECLINE: WHY STUDY II KINGS

Now all theses things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come — I Corinthians 10:11 (NKJV) It is not a happy story and there is plenty of heartbreak, yet the Book of II Kings is an important part of God’s Word. For in it, we learn the legacy and the lunacy of turning away from the LORD: division, decline, decadence, depravity, and dispersion. II Kings was written is for our benefit, so that we learn from the successes and failures of the people of God. II Kings is the narrative of the Israelite nation divided into two competing kingdoms: Judah in the south and Israel in the north. Neither of them were faithful to the LORD and the result of such unfaithfulness is the challenge of invasion, conquest, and exile. Yet in the midst of the backsliding and inevitable judgment, there is the scarlet cord of redemption. Though Judah was chastened and exiled, by God’s grace, it returned from exile. Those who ret...
