The Resurrection Matters

1 Corinthians 15:1-5 (The Gospel in Summary) 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received , and wherein ye stand ; 2 By which also ye are saved , if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: The Easter or Resurrection season is more than cute bunnies who lay chocolate eggs or a long weekend. It is a celebration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and stems from the most important events in human history. In summary, the Gospel can be summarised in four main points: Death : Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures Burial : He was buried; Resurrection : He rose again on the third day according to the Scriptur...

TERROR IN ORLANDO: Making Sense Out of the Senseless

It is a popular destination and place of entertainment. Indeed, Disney World is nearby, attracting holiday-makers worldwide. Yet on the weekend of June 11-12, 2016, Orlando, Florida USA went from being a place of fun to a place of terror. On June 11th, Christina Grimmie, a 22 year old American songwriter, singer, and contestant on NBC’s ‘The Voice,’ was gunned down in Orlando by 27 year old Kevin James Loibl, while signing autographs for her fans. She was a committed Christian who ‘loved Jesus’ and ‘the Bible.’ Her brother Marcus, who tackled the gunman before he shot himself, may have saved more lives. Then at 2:00 A.M. on Sunday morning, 12 June, Omar Mir Seddique Mateen, a 29 year old twice-married, New York born US citizen of Afghani descent, went into The Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando. A former security guard who legally purchased weapons in the previous fortnight, Mateen was well-armed and well-prepared for what he was about to do. Despite having a shooting exchan...

After Paris & San Bernardino: Is There Anywhere That Is Safe Anymore?

The news is rolling on with nauseating, disconcerting regularity. Major terrorist attacks have occurred in Ankara, Beirut, and possibly the Russian plane crash in Sinai. But it doesn’t stop there. Paris was hit in a major way for the second time in 2015 - on black Friday night 13 November where 130 were killed. Then on 2 December 2015 San Bernardino, where Syed Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik, conducted a mass shooting at the Inland Regional Centre, San Bernardino County Department of Public Health training event, killing 14 and injuring 21. No longer is terrorism limited to the Middle East and Third World. Instead, it has become a global phenomena, able to strike anywhere, at any time. Even far away Australia is under threat and has colour-coded terrorist levels. This leads to a very pertinent question: Is there anywhere in our world that is safe anymore? In the natural, the answer is ‘No.’ Terrorism is a very portable, often low budget, act of violent p...

BIBLE PROPHECY IS GOOD FOR YOU: Here’s Why.

Health and well-being are a high growth industry. This is especially true of ageing baby boomers (born between 1945-1965) who are spending billions of dollars to turn back the hands of the clock. Exercise, diet, peaceful living, sound sleep, fresh air - these things and more are offered to help improve the quality and longevity of life. Amazingly, the Bible says very little about these things, even though it is dedicated to give you abundant life. Secrets of longevity are found in Scripture - but again, they have little to do with the world’s recipe. Things like walking in wisdom, watching your tongue, honouring parents, trusting God, are offered as pathways to a longer, happier, qualitative life. What is greatly overlooked is that God’s Word, learned and applied, has remarkable transforming qualities. These apply to individuals, communities, and nations. Very special in the realm of Scripture is the vital topic of Bible prophecy. Once a wildly popular topic a few decades a...

NATURAL DISASTERS: Are the gods angry?

It happened all so quickly and unexpectedly, as is often the case with natural disasters. On iconic Mount Kinabalu in the Malaysian state of Sabah on the island of Borneo, 277 people were on the mountain, including 187 climbers. The date was Friday 5 June 2015. Suddenly and without warning, a massive earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale rocked the picturesque mountain. Boulders were dislodged and began to tumble downward. The Malaysian mountain guides like Robbie Sapinggi, Valerian Joannes, and Joseph Solgin valiantly tried to rescue their climbers but tragically perished. When it was all finished 18 people were dead: 9 from Singapore including students age 11-12 on a school outing; 6 from Malaysia, 1 Filipino, 1 Japanese and 1 from China. Flags flew at half-mast in Sabah and Singapore. Athletes at the SEA games observed a minute of silence. Makeshift memorials were found in various places. Statements came out of Sabah that the earthquake was the result of...
