Dealmaker? Peacemaker?: Trump and the Middle East

His name is a household word, and it is rare for people, both Americans and non-Americans, to be neutral. They either dislike him intensely or love him wholeheartedly. Yet, regardless of your opinion, Donald Trump is the most colourful man to occupy the Oval Office in modern times.   First elected as US President in 2016 on the coattails of Brexit, his first term in office (2017-2021) was eventful and turbulent. He worked hard and fought hard, and, unlike many career establishment elite politicians, the New York ‘blue collar’ billionaire, Donald Trump, related to everyday Americans, the working class, minorities, and Generation Z young people. That’s how he won two presidential elections, despite being a political outsider. Having left the White House after the disputed 2020 presidential election (one that he never conceded), Trump was considered politically dead. The obstacles to a political comeback were enormous: a second impeachment over the January 6th riot at the Capitol Buil...

Israel @ War: Prophecy Fulfilled? Part 01: Psalm 2

The horrifying terrorist attack on Israel was planned with deadly detail and executed with horrifying haste. Even the date of deployment, 7th October 2023, was planned: it was one day after the fiftieth anniversary of another existential surprise military attack on Israel - the Yom Kippur War of 1973. This earlier war nearly brought the world to the brink of a nuclear armageddon. Make no mistake about it: this is not just a war between Israel and Hamas or Hamas’s allies like the Houthis, Hezbollah, and Iran. It involves the entire world. Consider this: peaceful prosperous Australia was put on an Israeli travel advisory because of the shocking public displays of anti-Semitism in Sydney and Melbourne.   The ‘fishers’ and ‘hunters’ are loosed (Jeremiah 16:16). Why did Hamas attack Israel with unprecedented barbarism? Why did major nations, the United Nations, and prominent lobby groups fail to condemn the October 7th attack? Why is anti-Semitism raging worldwide in a latter-day versio...

2022 What to Watch Out For? Part 03: The Middle East

Issachar firmly believes we need to know and understand the times; it helps facilitate our obedience to Christ’s command to ‘watch and pray’ (Matthew 26:41; Ephesians 6:18). The greatest global focal point is where the Biblical story began and culminates: The Middle East. Here are a few things to watch … and pray … in 2022. Abraham Accords: Negotiated by the Trump Administration and signed in October 2020, the accords were immensely historic: four Arab countries (United Arab Emirates [UAE], Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco) made peace with Israel. This is the first time peace accords have been ratified by Israel and an Arab country since the peace treaty signed with Jordan in 1994. Morocco reputedly also has a military pact with the Jewish state. What to watch? Will the accords stay strong despite the change of administrations in the USA and Israel? With an emboldened Iran, we predict ‘Yes.’   Afghanistan: Any objective observer will admit that the American and Allied withdrawal from A...
